On May 17, 2026, Yashimabet Holistic Care Foundation once again gathered at the House of Dread for its second Elder Care Day of the year — continuing a mission deeply rooted in RasTafarian principles of service, dignity, community, and reverence for elders.
Within the Rastafari tradition, elders are regarded as living libraries, carriers of wisdom, memory, culture, and spiritual guidance. Yashimabet’s Care Days are built around this understanding: that caring for elders is not simply outreach work, but a sacred responsibility.
Throughout the day, volunteers and members came together to provide holistic care services including:
Hair washing and grooming
Foot care and nail care
Hygiene assistance
Nourishing meals
Wellness support
Fellowship and emotional care
The atmosphere on the grounds of the House of Dread reflected the heart of the foundation’s work — gentle hands, patient care, warm conversation, and community support. Elders were not rushed through a process, but welcomed into a space intentionally created for comfort, restoration, and respect.
What makes Yashimabet’s work unique is its holistic and culturally grounded approach. Care is offered with humanity and spiritual consciousness, recognizing that wellness extends beyond the physical body. The foundation continues to build a model of care centered around compassion, cultural preservation, and collective responsibility.
The May Care Day also highlighted the importance of community participation. Yashimabet Holistic Care Foundation welcomes:
Volunteers willing to serve during Care Days
Members who want to become active in community outreach
Donors and supporters who can contribute meals, hygiene products, medical supplies, clothing, or financial assistance
Each Care Day is made possible through the support of individuals who believe in preserving dignity for Jamaica’s elders and strengthening community through service.
